Best Time to Visit Bishnupur

The weather of Bishnupur city is essentially tropical in nature. The summers are extremely hot with temperature reaching as high as 45°C whereas the winter months from November to February are cool and pleasant. The temperature during this time remains around 27°C and it is ideally the best time to visit the city and the weather remains perfect for sightseeing. Rainfalls are also quite occasional during this time.

Famous Tourist Destinations in Bishnupur

Rasmancha

Built in by Kind Veer Hambir during the period of 1600 AD, Rasmancha is one of the oldest temple of Bishnupur city. This is brick made pavilion used for housing Lord Krishna idols specially during the Rash Festival. The most brilliant feature of the temple is its excellent pyramidal shape designed with hut shaped turrets. The building is beautifully constructed with basic designs of the Bengali hut roofs. Bricks made of burnt clay were used to make the floors and walls of the building. Terracotta designs enhance the look of the temple.

Jora Bangla Temple of Kesto Rai

Jora in Bengal means attached which is absolutely emphasized in the beautiful architecture of Jora Bangla Temple of Kesto Rai which is another popular attraction of Bishnupur city. This is a twin temple resembling two village huts of common people attached with a single roof on top. Malla King Raghunath Singh was the creator of this temple in the year 1655 which remains huge popular among devotees and tourists till today. The structure of the temple is known to have built on a one meter high base of burnt clay bricks. The walls are beautifully designed with terracotta works which displays gods and goddesses, saints, their lives, pictures from epics and also pictures of human life , culture etc.

Pachna Ratna Temple of Shyam Rai

Pachna Ratna Temple of Shyam Rai was built in the year 1643 AD by the powerful King Raghunath Sinha with brilliant architectural and convoluted sculptural details that make it an outstanding creation in the land of Bishnupur.

MadanMohan Temple

One of the most visited and pious shrine based in Bishnupur city is the beautiful Madanmohan temple. The temple is prominent for its excellent artistry that outnumbers Shyam Rai temple and Keshta Rai temples. The temple is located in Shankaripara area outside the fort boundary of King Durjana Singh Dev in 1694AD. The temple was dedicated to his family deities Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha. The architecture of the temple is simply unique where the whole structure is balanced on a single tower with a curved roof top which ideally resembles the Bengali hut Chalas seen frequently here. The complex carvings, the integral sculptures and the brilliant artistry on the walls of the temple depicts scenes from popular Hindu epics, Ramyana, Mahabharat and not to forget Puranas. It is one of the best attractions of Bishnupur city and a must visit for all.

Radhe Shyam Temple

Built in 1758 by King Chaitanya Singha , Radhe Shyam Temple is one of the pious locations of Bishnupur city. Dedicated to Lord Krishna this temple conducts regular pujas for the devotees.

Lalji Temple

Built in 1658 by Bir Singha II this is a well built and popular temple of Bishnupur city by the Malla Kings. For years the Malla Kingdom used to shower immense importance to this location. Though the temple is not so architecturally sound but it is an embodiment of love and affection personified by Lord Krishna and Radha. Apart from the temples other historical yet beautiful sightseeing location in Bishnupur city are the three large water tanks built in by the Malla Kings for dual purpose.

Lalbandh, Krishnabandh and Pokabandh are three major water tanks which were built primarily for water storage for the supply of water to the villages and secondly to protect Malla kingdom for outside attack where when enemy comes they can release the water of the tank towards them.
